Energy Efficient Heating: Wood Fuel Substitutes

Energy Efficient HeatingOver the past couple of months, the heating experts at Ace Hardware & Hearth (Glen Burnie and Pasadena) and Ace Home & Leisure in Edgewater have offered several Energy Efficient Heating Alternatives, including Electric FireplacesPellet StovesWood Burning Stoves, and Gas Fireplaces and Stoves. This week, we are going to look at an alternative to one of these alternatives.

Energy Efficient Heating: Wood Fuel Substitutes

For quite some time, cordwood cut from hardwood trees, split, and seasoned for a year used to be the only fuel available to burn in your fireplace, wood stove, or insert. That was until now! There are wood based fuels, like Envi Blocks and Wood Brick fuel, which are made from compressed wood waste and provide lower cost heat for your home. The wood waste is kiln dried, run through a compressing machine, and formed into either 2-4” bricks or logs.

One pallet of these beauties are equal to1-1 ½ cords of split firewood.

Additional Benefits

  1. They are 100% dry so all of the fire goes to producing heat and not drying out green hardwood.
  2. At $200-$250/cord for dry and seasoned cordwood, these compressed eco-fuels actually cost less than wood logs.
  3. There is virtually no ash to clean out!
  4. These store neatly in a 20” wide stack in your garage and come in packages of 4 or 8 shrink wrapped.

More heat, burns hotter, burns cleaner, less mess, convenient, saves time and money!
